COAL The familiar storyline is that children who misbehaved would get a piece of coal from Santa instead of a treat in their stockings. The Lump of Coal Legend started several hundred years ago. Some believe it started in Germany and others believe it started in Italy or England. Regardless, this tradition is alive and well in Pennsylvania, where we believe that there are many different uses for Santa's naughty piece of nature. Coal can cajole, inspire, remind us and is even good for a few laughs. Great for White Elephant Parties and Secret Santa.
